Our first step is to help you define a realistic budget for your project. While your dream kitchen won't be cheap, it's one of the best investments you can make in your home, according to figures from Remodeling Magazine. And, we know where it's safe to trim costs and where you should spend a little extra to get the maximum bang for your buck.
Kitchen Ideas
After setting a budget, it's time to decide what you want. There are lots of decisions to be made here, and our kitchen designer will help you with each and every one. Using your budget as a guide, we'll bring you suggestions on each decision and try to limit your choices in any area to just a couple, rather than hundreds. To start out, you'll need to decide what functional elements you want in your kitchen and make decisions about kitchen decorating.
Let's look at some functions and features you might like your kitchen improvement to bring you.
- Is your current work space organized efficiently or do you want to change the kitchen layout and move one of the major appliances or sink to make life easier?
- Will you keep your current appliances or are you going to upgrade into something larger?
- Do you want an "eat-in" area that allows space for a table and chairs or would a snackbar be sufficient?
- What about a kitchen island?
- One kitchen trend is to make sure you have a kitchen pantry cabinet that will give you easy access to canned and boxed food items.
- Some other functional items might include a built in wine rack or wine cube, space for a TV or computer workstation, sliding shelves for easier access...there are literally too many to list here.
You'll also need to make some decisions about your kitchen decorating style.
- Do you like the clean lines of a contemporary kitchen? Or are you more at home with a traditional look? Or perhaps something European , maybe an Italian kitchen design? Our kitchen designer will help you learn the different styles and find the one that is right for you.
- What color scheme are you looking for? This will affect paint colors of course, but also more permanent items like cabinet wood and finish selection, countertop material, and sink and appliance colors.
- Have you thought about the countertop workspaces. Would you like to add the elegance of a granite countertop or other stone material like marble or quartz?
- Your kitchen backsplash can have a major visual impact, have you considered a tile surface here? The color and texture choices are nearly limitless here.
- Kitchen flooring is likely one of the largest surfaces in the room. Do you want a hard wood floor? Or is floor tiling more to your liking? You'll need to decide on color and patterns for either one.
- Your sink and faucets are another area that will need to be decided. There are some incredible new undercounter sinks available if you're putting in a solid granite countertop. And faucet manufacturers are bringing new and visually interesting designs out nearly every day.
Lighting. You'll want to look at both direct and indirect lighting in your kitchen. Luckily the choices here will show your new space off dramatically and you'll have great light for working in any area of the kitchen.
